Alienware 240Hz Gaming Monitor 24.5 Inch Full HD Monitor with IPS Technology, Dark Gray - Dark Side of the Moon - AW2521HF

Reviews

1. Alienware 34 QD-OLED (AW3423DW)

Product’s Specifications

  • Screen size: 34-inch

  • Panel type: QD OLED

  • Aspect ratio: 21:9

  • Resolution: 3440 x 1440

  • Response time: 0.1ms

  • Refresh rate: 175Hz

  • Weight: 15.26lbs

  • Refresh rate technology: G-Sync Ultimate

Product’s Highlights

OLED is now available on computers and in an ultrawide format. It's not surprising that Alienware's 34 QD-OLED is one of the very few gaming monitors to achieve such an outstanding rating from us. This screen from Dell offers a stunning OLED panel that is perfect for PC gaming. While this display isn't ideal, it outperforms LCD-based monitors in numerous crucial ways for gamers. And using it gives me a real rush.

When you enter the Windows Display Settings menu and increase the SDR brightness, HDR 400 True Black mode typically produces the best results. It also looks a lot zingier.

The main worry is burn-in, which causes a few oddities. To begin with, you could occasionally notice that the entire image has shifted by one or two pixels. The panel has roughly 20 more pixels on both axes, giving it plenty of room. Like an SSD overprovisioning memory cells, Alienware uses this technique to stop static objects from gradually "burning" into the display.

Although we didn't notice any personal issues with this 175 Hz monitor, there are undoubtedly faster panels available if your enjoyment and performance in gaming depend on having the lowest possible latency. You can only get the full 175Hz with a single DisplayPort input. However, the Alienware 34 QD-OLED sailed past our monitor testing suite and had an insanely fast reaction time of 0.1ms. That speed is noticeable in-game as well.

On this panel, there isn't an HDMI 2.1 port, though. As a result, it's probably not the ideal option for console gaming. But since you're reading PC Gamer, we advise you to connect your computer to this premium gaming monitor if you're going to do so.

Pros

  • Beautiful and sturdy design.

  • Excellent picture quality in SDR and HDR.

  • Competitive pricing for a feature set.

  • Exceptional color gamut and coverage results.

  • Fast and responsive gaming performance.

  • Input lag is significantly lower than in previous OLED displays.

Cons

  • Installation is difficult so it will take time to get used to.

2. Gigabyte G27Q

Product’s Specifications

  • Screen size: 27-inch

  • Panel type: IPS

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9

  • Resolution: 2560 x 1440

  • Response time: 1ms

  • Refresh rate: 144Hz

  • Weight: 20.9lbs

  • Refresh rate technology: FreeSync Premium

Product’s Highlights

The G27Q demonstrates that an excellent IPS 1440p display doesn't have to cost a fortune. The 27-inch display from Gigabyte costs roughly $330 and includes a ton of desirable features, but its beautiful color and fluid gameplay are its real selling points.

It looks very ordinary as a flat, 27-inch monitor with a style that wouldn't stick out in an office setting. However, it ranks among the top gaming monitors I've ever had the pleasure of using. It not only has an exquisite, bright IPS panel with 8-bit colors and 92% DCI-P3 coverage, but it also supports HDR.

As someone who values visual quality, I appreciate this resolution's effectiveness and clarity. Even the modest GTX 1660 Super on my desktop can run games at high settings at a smooth 60 frames per second. The 144Hz refresh rate can be a hindrance if you spend all of your time playing CS:GO or Valorant, but the 1ms response time is undoubtedly beneficial.

The adaptive sync provided by AMD FreeSync Premium enables the Gigabyte G27Q to handle gaming with ease. The G27Q is also G-Sync compatible, so it doesn't matter if you're on team Red or Green. I used a desktop and laptop with Nvidia graphics instead of an AMD GPU to conduct the testing. Neither had any problems running games with G-Sync enabled.

Due to its VESA Display HDR 400 Certification can grow unbearably bright; however, in games, bright areas like sunny skies and other bright spaces tend to blow out and lose definition at maximum brightness. Sometimes, dark patches are crushed as well.

However, Netflix and YouTube movies and videos fare far better. Unfortunately, my Xbox One X refused to identify the G27Q as HDR-capable. I didn't miss much, though, because the G27Q's SDR mode is also superb.

With a clear, vivid, and fluid image, the G27Q excels whether you use it for work or play.

Pros

  • Great 1440p resolution.

  • Excellent picture quality.

  • High-end gaming performance.

  • Native FreeSync support and G-SYNC compatibility.

Cons

  • Low contrast ratio.

3. Dell S2722DGM

Product’s Specifications

  • Screen size: 27-inch

  • Panel type: VA

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9

  • Resolution: 2560 x 1440

  • Response time: 1ms

  • Refresh rate: 165Hz

  • Weight: 9.4lbs

  • Refresh rate technology: FreeSync Premium

Product’s Highlights

The standard 27-inch Dell S2722DGM combines that screen area with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440, giving you a fantastic pixel pitch for fine detail. With a 1440p resolution, you can achieve great frame rates without having to worry about a 4K display's GPU requirements. Its ability to produce such resolution at 165Hz is also applauded.

You're covered in terms of speed because it has a 2ms GtG response, which is only marginally slower than the most delicate IPS panels' ratings of 1ms and 0.5ms. However, you can find faster panels if you're genuinely after speed. Given the inherent great contrast of the technology, at least this VA panel has a high contrast ratio.

Given that it is a pure SDR panel, the Dell S2722DGM has a vivid and vibrant image. This is made possible by the solid intrinsic contrast, which prevents you from feeling underwhelmed when playing HDR-compatible games like Cyberpunk 2077 in SDR mode.

There is no USB Type-C connectivity available. Even though the HDMI ports have a 144Hz rather than a 165Hz maximum refresh rate, the twin HDMI and one DisplayPort connections work just fine.

Most importantly, this Dell monitor is reasonably priced. Dell offers top-notch gaming panels with all the required capabilities and a few extras to raise the price. And given that, it ranks among the top gaming displays available today for most PC gamers.

Pros

  • Strong VA panel's intrinsic contrast.

  • Fast refresh rate.

  • Excellent quality video processing

  • Solid build quality.

  • Affordable.

Cons

  • No HDR support.

4.  Pixio PX277 Prime

Product’s Specifications

  • Screen size: 27-inch

  • Panel type: IPS

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9

  • Resolution: 2560 x 1440

  • Response time: 1ms

  • Refresh rate: 165Hz

  • Weight: 16.3lbs

  • Refresh rate technology: G-Sync Compatible, FreeSync Premium

Product’s Highlights

The Pixio PX277 Prime is a gaming monitor that is about as basic as they come. The foundation, which was created with a sci-fi theme in mind, is slick-looking, and it's clear that a lot of attention went into the item's build quality. Our opinion is that the thin bezel is always positive.

This 27-inch panel offers frames at a consistent 165Hz refresh rate, which isn't the fastest but is unquestionably adequate for professional gaming. For gaming, the 1ms grey-to-grey response time is also beneficial. AMD users may rely on a tear-free gaming experience thanks to the monitor's FreeSync certification.

For the size of the monitor, 1440p provides a good pixel density, and the image is also reasonably sharp. The screen's anti-glare properties are claimed, and it holds up well in most well-lit conditions but struggles in low settings.

We accept that the Pixio's 1000:1 contrast ratio isn't the best, but with a little tweaking, the colors may be adjusted to provide a vibrant and accurate image. However, seeing this right out of the box would have been good.

However, the PX277 Prime's low price is its main selling feature. An excellent entry-level choice for people who want a larger screen with a high refresh rate but don't want to go completely bankrupt.

The Pixio panel is ideal for the budget gamer who doesn't mind forgoing some of the bells and whistles of a higher-end monitor but is eager on top performance, even though the build quality isn't as durable as a higher-spec screen.

Pros

  • Reasonable price.

  • 165 Hz refresh rate.

  • Low input lag.

  • Solid build quality.

Cons

  • No extra contrast in HDR mode.

FAQs

1. How much frequency is enough?

The frequency of screen scanning, the phrase is of particular interest to gamers. Screen refresh rate is a term that refers to the number of frames that appear per second. The higher the screen refresh rate, the clearer and smoother your actions on software and game movements will become.

A high refresh rate screen of 120Hz or higher will be more suitable for gamers passionate about FPS games with relatively complex graphics and game mechanics that require a lot of movement. If you belong to the fan community of MOBA games like League of Legends, DOTA, Warcraft, a 60Hz or 75Hz screen is more than enough.

2. What screen size should I choose?

Screen size will also have a small impact on your gaming experience. According to our assessment, 24-inch or 27-inch screens are the most optimal choices. It should be noted that the screen size is too large for the resolution, which will quickly cause pitting or broken images. Therefore, if 32-inch monitors are in your sights, don't forget to consider their resolution.

3. Full HD resolution or 2K, 4K?

The resolution will directly affect the display quality of the screen. Full HD resolution is the most common parameter on gaming monitor products. And the Full HD screen is also the ideal suggestion for all games and many customers.

Some types of monitors today have achieved resolutions up to 4K. However, large resolution screens are often relatively expensive and not optimal for many use situations. Using monitors with configurations that exceed your needs will also lead to unwanted waste, as you will hardly be able to exploit their full potential.

4. Is screen border thinness important?

Thin border and overflow screens are extremely attractive advertising words you often hear in product introduction videos. The thin thickness of the screen border will not affect your visual perception too much. When you focus 100% on gaming, you will hardly pay attention to the screen border anymore.

Final Thought

Our suggestions are based on the Best gaming monitors that are currently on the market, in our opinion. They have been modified to work for most people in each price range. Rating is determined by our review, considering the cost and customer comments.

Here is a list of every gaming monitor review we've done so you can decide for yourself. Be careful not to become bogged down in the particulars. The majority of monitors are sufficient for most users, and the flaws we criticize them for are frequently invisible unless you actively seek them.
