LinkedIn is a social media platform that connects job seekers and businesses.

Aside from applying to open job advertising and saving positions to apply to later, LinkedIn also allows users to turn on the “Open to Work” function, which informs recruiters that you are actively looking for work.

When you enable the Open to Work feature, it will appear on your profile underneath your profile description, as well as as a frame around your profile photo.

You can use this tool to specify your work preferences, such as the job roles you're looking for, desired locations, and job type (e.g. full-time, part-time, remote, etc.).

The “Open to Work” feature allows you to control whether you want to notify only recruiters or your entire LinkedIn network that you're available for work.

  • Everyone on LinkedIn: This makes your “Open to Work” status accessible to everyone on LinkedIn, including recruiters and coworkers. The #OpenToWork photo frame is also added to your profile picture with this choice.

  • Recruiters only: Only those who use LinkedIn Recruiter will see the “Open to Work” option.

To preserve your privacy during your job search, LinkedIn has introduced these two choices. They also claim to take precautions to prevent LinkedIn Recruiter users from seeing your shared career interests if they work at your current or connected companies.

If the feature worked its magic and you landed a new job, you should probably delete the “Open to Work” option from your profile.

On a desktop, to remove the 'Open to Work' frame from your profile picture, do the following:

  • Go to LinkedIn.com and click on “Me” in the top right corner of the home page.

  • Choose “View Profile” from the drop-down menu.

  • Alternatively, you can go to your profile by clicking on your profile image in the top-left corner of the screen.

  • A pop-up window will appear when you click on your profile photo.

  • From the bottom menu, select “Frames.”

  • Your current profile photo frame is set to #OpentoWork. Selecting the Original frame then click “Apply”.

  • A pop-up box will appear, asking if you want to delete the phrase “Open to Work” from your profile or share it with “Recruiters only” rather than “All LinkedIn Members.”

When you select Remove “Open to Work” from profile, it will be deleted from your entire LinkedIn network. If you select to Share “Open to Work'' with recruiters only, your “Open to Work” choice will only be visible to recruiters, and your LinkedIn connections will not be able to see it.

Depending on your option, you can either remove “Open to Work” from your profile or only share “Open to Work'' with recruiters. Then select “Save” from the drop-down menu.

How to Remove the “Open to Work” Section from Your LinkedIn Profile?

There is no #OpentoWork frame applied to your profile photo if you've chosen to make your “Open to Work” solely accessible to recruiters.

Instead, a section called “Open to Work” is added to the top of your profile, where you can describe your career interests, job and workplace type, and location.

To delete the “Open to Work” part from your profile, follow these steps:

  • On a desktop or mobile device, go to your LinkedIn profile.

  • In the “Open to Work” section under your profile headline, tap the “pencil icon” in the top-right corner.
