How To Split A Word Document In Half

When you split a page in Word, you can divide the content into columns across the page. Here are some easy ways to break a page or pages in Microsoft Word without further ado.

Using Columns To Split A Page In Half

If you want to divide your document's pages vertically, Microsoft Word makes it easy to do so with columns. Using columns is the easiest way to divide your page into different parts. Follow the steps below to split a page in Microsoft Word into two parts down the middle.

Step 1: Choose the text on the page you want to divide in half. Don't choose text if you want to split all the pages in your Word file.

Step 2: Click on the tab called Layout.

Step 3: Click the Columns button in the Page Setup group. There is a shortcut menu with five column choices.

Step 4: Choose "Two-column" if you want to divide your page or pages into two equal parts.

Step 5: Use the Three column option to divide your page or pages into three parts.

Step 6: If you want more than three columns on your page, click on More Columns.

Step 7: The dialog box for the column will show up. In the box labeled "Number of Columns," type the number of columns you want your pages to have. Click the Line between box if you want a line to separate the columns on your pages.

Step 8: Click OK.

Columns are affected by a section break in Word. So, if your document only has one section, the columns will be the same on all pages. But if your document has more than one section, only the pages in the current section will be split.

Using Tables To Split A Page In Half

In this method, you use grid tables as a layout to divide your page however you want. For example, you can use the tables option to split your page into half or even four grid parts if you want to show four different photos and charts.

Follow the steps below to use tables to split your Microsoft Word document down the middle.

Step 1: Negative to the "Insert" tab on the Microsoft Word Ribbon to add a table.

Step 2: To add a table, click "Table."

Step 3: Use the drop-down menu to make a table with one row and two columns.

Step 4: To choose the table, click the plus sign in the table's upper-left corner.

Step 5: Right-click on the table and choose "Table Properties" from the menu that appears.

Step 6: Use the "Table Properties" window to go to the "Row" tab.

Step 7: Next, ensure that the "Specify height" box is unchecked and that "Allow row to break across pages" is chosen.

Step 8: Click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner.

Step 9: Click and drag the line between two columns to change the size.

Step 10: Again, click on the "+" sign next to the table, right-click, and move the cursor over the "AutoFit" option.

Step 11: From the extended menu, choose "Fixed Column Width."

To hide the table's borders, select the table and then go to the "Design" tab and click on "Borders." Next, choose "No Border."
