How we protect our independence

The PF Score

Every product we recommend is rated with a PF Score from 0 to 10. It is our own independent rating, developed by our reviewers, and it is never influenced by manufacturers, retailers, or affiliate commissions.

The score combines four pillars, applied consistently within each category: performance and results, design and build quality, ease of use, and value. Because the score is relative to the category, the bands below describe how good a product is for its type and price range:

  • 9.0 to 10, Exceptional. Among the very best in its category, with few meaningful compromises.
  • 8.0 to 8.9, Excellent. A standout choice we recommend with confidence.
  • 7.0 to 7.9, Very good. A strong pick with only minor tradeoffs.
  • 6.0 to 6.9, Good. A solid option for the right budget or the right buyer.
  • 4.0 to 5.9, Fair. Noticeable compromises, and better options usually exist.
  • Below 4.0, Poor. Significant drawbacks that keep it off our recommended list.
